Glow party, anyone? Kid friendly activities that you’ll enjoy too

Y’all, if you haven’t had a glow party with your kids, it’s time to add it to the rotation.

This one is super simple and was one of the top requested activities in our house! You don’t need to have any special reason to throw one of these parties - it’s fun for any time you want to do something fun and out of the ordinary.

Essentially you’ll just wait til it’s dark out, then break out some glow sticks and music to party down to. There’s literally zero prep time required, and we’d usually get a good hour or more of fun out of it before we got tired. 😅

Here’s all you’ll need to get the party going!

Glow sticks

This is literally the only requirement to have a glow party. I’d recommend getting a variety of colors and sizes so that you can make bracelets, necklaces, headbands - whatever you and the kids want!

I knew how much the kids loved this one, so whenever I saw glow sticks on sale I would buy a few packs and just keep them on hand for the next time we wanted to party. You can often find these super cheap at the dollar store, too.

Or, if you want to go all out you can buy a party pack with special connectors to make glasses or balls to play around with!

Dance music

To quote my partner on this one, “Just don’t play Kids Bop.”

To really make this fun for everyone, make sure you’re playing music that you actually want to hear. Anything that energizes you and gets you dancing is perfect. Our go-to is 90’s dance mixes, but feel free to throw on some hip-hop or salsa music or whatever else makes you move!

Spotify and Apple Music have a ton of playlists ready to go for any genre you’re into.

If you are concerned about younger ears, just be sure to turn off the explicit content in your app settings so those songs won’t pop up.

To turn off explicit content in Spotify, tap the gear icon to access your settings and switch off “Allow Explicit Content”.

To turn off explicit content in Apple Music, go to Settings > Content Restrictions. First turn on the switch to “Enable Content Restrictions”, then switch off “Music: Allow Explicit Content”.

Balloons and other glow in the dark toys

If you get tired of dancing (or dancing just isn’t your thing) be sure to have some other toys on hand to keep the kids occupied.

Any glow-in-the-dark or light up toys are a great option, but be aware of your surroundings when choosing toys you’ll be throwing back and forth! Keep in mind you’ll be in the dark, so you’ll want to be careful not to have anything breakable around.

A safe option is to make some DIY glow-in-the-dark balloons! For this you’ll start with some white balloons, then light up glow stick bracelets (or try these mini glow sticks) and insert them into the balloons before blowing them up.

You can easily hit these around without worrying too much about breaking anything!

And that’s really all you need! You really don’t have to worry about any fancy games here. Glow sticks are always a hit on their own, so just let your imagination run wild and try playing around with different shapes and movements with them.

Let us know if you give this one a try and what you think!
